IMD Management Committee Meetings

	These are held regularly (about every 2 months) throughout the year.
	They are usually held at Queens Hall Methodist Mission.
	The most recent meeting took place on Thursday 3rd December 2009.
	The next meeting will be on Thursday 18th February 2010, 11:30, Queen's Hall.

IMD Council Meetings

	These are held twice per year.
	They are usually at the Ashbourne Road, Church, Derby, at 7:30.
	The Next Council Meeting will be held on Tuesday 21st September 2010.
	The previous Council Meeting took place on Tuesday 9th March 2010.

IMD AGM

	These take place in May each year.
	They are usually at Ashbourne Road Church at 7:30.
	The 2009 AGM took place on Tuesday 19th May, and was addressed by Humphey Southern, Bishop of Repton.
	This year's AGM will take place on Tuesday 11th May 2010, at Ashbourne Road.
	At the AGM the Annual Report is shared, and this is the opportunity to hear how the work is progressing and to share in the future.

Local Church Conferences

	IMD attends local Church conferences in Derbyshire by invitation, for purposes of putting on a stall with displays and hand-out material.
	The Derby Diocese Clergy Conference takes place in the autumn each year.
	The 2009 Clergy Conference took place at Swanwick on November 23rd to 25th.

	The Nottingham and Derby District of the Methodist Church, holds Synods twice yearly, round about April and September.
	Derby Diocese Clergy Conference takes place in the autumn each year.
	The most recent Synod was held at Littleover Methodist Church on Saturday 5th September 2009.
	IMD was also present at the Inauguaration of the Derby Methodist Circuit, at Queens Hall, on Sunday 30th August 2009.

Police Chaplains Meetings

	The chaplains to the Derbyshire Police Service, co-ordinated by former IMD Chair, Rev'd Canon Keith Orford, meet on at regular intervals.
	The IMD office sometimes gets to hear of when they are happening.
	The last known one was postponed for 5 weeks due to snowfalls in Derbyshire!

2009 AGM

The Annual General Meeting of IMD took place at Ashbourne Road Church in Derby on Tuesday 19th May, a venue that has proved very useful and conducive. Refreshments were served from 7:00 for a 7:30 start. There were 22 people present, including workplace chaplains, IMD Council members, and others interested in industrial mission.

Rev'd Dr John Davies was offered to the meeting by the Archdeacon of Derby, for confirmation to serve as the new Chair of IMD, which was unanimously approved of. Welcome, John!

In his 1st Chair's report, John:-

1) Introduced a series of seminars to reflect on best practice, being set up in liaison with the Bishop of Derby. More details to follow soon.

2) Is actively setting up chaplaincy for the Magistrates Court in Derby.

3) Paid tribute to his colleagues and predecessors.

4) Asked the question as to whether the chaplain as a compassionate, neutral listener, was a good enough response in a challenging world.

The main speaker, the Bishop of Repton, Humphrey Southern, spoke 'interactively' about the relationship between 'Faith and Work Today' following the recent Diocesan and LEP Reviews. He began by referring to the Rector of St Margaret at Westminster, also chaplain to Parliament (wondering how he was tackling the expenses row!), in asking what chaplains bring to the community.

He also drew on his own hospital chaplaincy experience, and noting that faith is often held in suspicion in workplaces, wondered about whether faith had necessarily to be a leisure activity. His defining question for chaplaincy work, which was based on a similar challenge to Churches, and which was thrown open for discussion was:

"What difference would it make if you're not here?"
