The position of Agricultural Chaplaincy in the west Derbyshire area was borne out of a needs assessment post Foot & Mouth in 2001, expressing a need for extra pastoral support. Evidence suggests that there is still an ongoing need both in this area and in other areas of Derbyshire. The number of referrals has doubled this last year. Graham Hinds is the Agricultural Chaplain covering this area"My core work includes a regular presence at the livestock market in Bakewell on Mondays. I have sensed that both the market regulars and I have grown in confidence with each other, resulting in many opportunities to chat with farmers – expressing hope and support when appropriate. "I regularly take the opportunity of “warm” calling on farmers. I am amazed that though I have now visited over 350 farmers, I am still discovering new farms!" A pastoral letter is sent out to 450 farmers twice a year. Networking has resulted in some productive outcomes. Examples are:
Funding-wise, God continues to supply and surprise! I am also grateful for the support and wise counsel provided through the chaplaincy support team and pastoral group. |
