Chaplaincy vacancies - updated September 16th 2011 (and again on November 18th)

Are you losing out? - chaplaincy vacancies still 'out there'

At next week's Diocese of Derby Clergy Conference, the WCD stall and displays will be there, hoping to attract anyone with love for God and love for people, in the hope that more workplaces can benefit from the presence of a chaplain.

The picture, right, shows the 'spreading out' of chaplaincy work covered by WCD-supported chaplains. This diagram needs updating, as extra chaplaincies have come into being since its creation, but it gives an idea of the sort of thing that goes on.

But, there remain many places without a chaplain. So this is a bit of an appeal. At the Conference, we will offer an up-to-date list of chaplaincy vacancies. For this to be right we need YOU to tell us where the vacancies actually are!

[The old Kitchener 'your country needs you' poster - WCD needs your information on vacancies.]

Answer:     1) They all have people work there

                 2) The people who work there have the same kinds of life issues and events that any of the rest of us have

                 3) They have no chaplain to talk with!

Those of you who do have to access to chaplains will know how important that last point is. Think of your work colleagues and the things they like or need to share with you, and then spare a thought for those with no-one like you, or their local chaplain, to turn to. How will we get the workplaces and their people covered in this way? By praying, and then by wondering who might be called to do it. But watch out - praying such things can be dangerous for your own comfort!

Chaplaincy vacancies - updated January 28th 2011

There are currently a number of workplaces where there are vacancies for chaplains. In particular, the Fire Service and the Courts represent new and expanding opportunities. It is estimated that we need to about double the number of chaplains in order to meet the demand for chaplaincy. This is exciting news, that chaplaincy is so much wanted, and the opportunity to take the love of the Lord into places where many people 20% of their entire time (not just waking time).

Opportunities specifically to draw to attention are in:

bulletPolice Service
bulletDerbyshire Fire & Rescue Service (DFRS)
bulletHM Courts service
bulletlocal ASDA supermarkets
bulletCity Centre chaplaincy
bulletbusiness, theatre and retail
