The Website of Workplace Chaplaincy in Derbyshire

  PRAYER TOPICS

Home

This is a new page created 28 July 2009. The purpose of this page is to directly feed in items for prayer. These can be general or specific prayer requests, and usually related to faith and work issues and/or workplace and chaplaincy situations and people.

Below is a list of prayer requests and topics. Please click on the title to go to the prayer and for further background.

James 5v13-20 reminds us of the value and importance of prayer offered to a mighty Lord with simple faith and trust in Him. Verse 16: "The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective."

Please let us know your prayer requests and needs, on mailto:imd02@queenshall.plus.com.

See WCD Christmas message from the Office

bullet

10 categories of people: chaplains, christian fellowships, christians in workplaces, organisations, WCD people, lonely or anxious people, poor and homeless, persecuted, Governments, family and friends.

The Duty God calls us to follow.

“And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” Luke 10v41,42.

No message here. See the WCD Christmas message from the Office, for a thought on that verse, on duty, on revolutionising the world for the better in 2012.

Suggested Prayer items for this Christmas season:

Please pray for any of the following, either generally or more specifically where you know people and their situations:

1)    The wonderful chaplains, concluding the Christmas rounds, for a good break and refreshment for the task.

2)    The Christian Fellowships in workplaces, in spreading the news of the Saviour’s love, in readiness for their activity in the next year.

3)    The Christians in workplaces, aiming to be salt and light and hoping that something rubs off.

4)    The organisations that employ people, and those who lead them, to be ever mindful of the people and things in their care.

5)    The officers and staff of WCD, in planning the way ahead and getting the tasks done for the furtherance of the work that God has called us to do.

6)    Those who will be lonely or anxious this Christmas, for comfort to be available and offered.

7)    The poor and homeless of this and other places, that relief and physical respite can be there for them.

8)    Those who are persecuted for nothing more than believing in the Saviour who came into this world.

9)    For Governments and authorities in looking to steer the world through turbulent times.

10)  For our own family and friends who have not yet accepted that “He came down to earth from Heaven, who is God and Lord of all.”

The monthly Prayershield for July is covering IMD in general and specific chaplaincies on a calendar basis. This was written for their monthly Bulletin, and we appreciate their support in publishing this.

The description and prayers that IMD submitted to them were previously posted in IMD's weekly prayers, and can be accessed at:

Prayers for those involved in and affected by workplace bullying.

The issue of workplace bullying is highlighted in the July/August issue of the IMA magazine IMAgenda. A discussion on this topic, based around the magazine items, is on the 'DISCUSSION TOPICS' page.

In the magazine (page 3) there is a prayer:

A Prayer for Those Who Fear

"O Lord God, keep ever in our remembrance the life and death of our Saviour Jesus Christ. Make the thought of His love powerful to win us from evil. As He toiled and sorrowed and suffered for us, in fighting against sin, so may we endure constantly and labour diligently, as His servants. Through the same Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen."

Pray for any situations of workplace bullying that you are aware of, and for people you know to be or have been involved and affected by this.

Somercotes Medical Centre Alpha course.

On the 'HEALTHCARE' page there is reference to the Alpha supper recently held at Somercotes Medical Centre, where Rev'd Derek Beech is chaplain. Derek has written in to say that the supper went well, and that the Alpha course will start in September.

Please pray that the people God wants on this course will be inspired to come and be invited along to it. The Alpha course is universally recognised as the biggest thing in a long time for introducing millions to the Christian faith. Derek has long wanted to get this going at the medical centre. May the love of the Lord be spread into many hearts and minds.

A prayer for Chaplains everywhere.

God bless the chaplains,

with oil on their boots, noise in their ears,

cranes rumbling overhead,

God bless the chaplains to manufacturing.

God bless the chaplains,

in hushed offices, busy shopping centres,

on the buses, beside the phone desks,

God bless the chaplains to service industry.

God bless the chaplains,

with tired and angry police,

with firefighters, sharing bacon sandwiches,

God bless the chaplains to emergency services.

God bless the chaplains,

in long meetings, trying to keep the vision in mind,

alongside people who struggle to make a better world,

God bless the chaplains of regeneration.

God bless the chaplains,

however they operate, full time, part time,

paid, unpaid, with church, without church,

harassed or not.

God of fishers and carpenters, bless the chaplains.
